That is an incorrect definition of “object”.

Objects are values that have introspect-able properties and respond to messages. Handlers have properties and respond to messages.

The fact that you can't perform an arbitrary operation that you would like to with a given type of object is a feature request or a bug report, or an inherent logical outcome of that object's type. For example, you can't interpret an integer as a record, but both are objects.
