Differences between commands in AppleScript editor and commands drop-down from tools menue from within Dragon Dictate

Why do commands work differently from within the script editor that directly into a command?
 For example: say “hello”
 works fine in script editor but not into a command. Also:
 set my_list to {“one”, “two”, “three”}
 there are many others I’m sure, but these are a couple of examples.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
--Doug
