My (good) question here is:

Did the new width stays after you close (and therefore open) that window ?

It doesn't, at least when I run 10.10.3 in French.
It doesn't stay when I define the parameters by hand so I'm not really surprised.

Did the new width stays after a Finder reboot ?

Given the first answer, I guess that it doesn't too.

The Finder have bugs in that area (Yosemite, Mavericks ?)

For sure. Which application has no bug ?
I guess that you know the link to use to report a bug.
