At one stage I recollect the ASLG advising to use the id form in scripts you distribute, but it doesn't seem to now. I think it's generally a good idea, although it can have its own problems where you have multiple versions of an app present. And they're harder to remember -- fortunately that's no problem in Script Debugger, which you can set to default to them.
I don't know what the problem is with Acrobat. For some reason the name form is working here today, so it's a bit hard to track the issue down. But I suspect it's a case of something wrong in the Info.plist file in either Acrobat Pro or plug-ins.
