Thanks, Jim.  Some creative ideas.

I am already using email and SMS messaging as part of my alarm system.

Growl is a good thought but...

I uninstalled Growl when they started charging for it.  It's not the price, it's the principle of the thing.  Many other developers built growl into their applications because it was free. After it became a became a de-facto standard... Gotcha!  This is a strategy employed by drug pushers among others.  I think it's shady and violates an implied agreement.

When I upgrade, I can probably use the Message Center... but I expect to be dead before then :)
