Ahh, yeah; I’m targeting the array instead of the individual message. That makes sense.

I can’t test this till a live message comes in (because setting an old message to ‘unread’ and then using ‘Apply Rules’ does in fact work; it’s only when a new incoming message arrives that it fails); however, this answer has got common sense written all over it. Unless I post back later somewhat dispirited, assume this has solved the problem!
