Eureka! It works. Now I can fix a couple of other mailing lists.
Now if I could only add a Reply-To header to incoming mails...
Mail Act-On is not inexpensive at $29.95 U.S., but I've been using it for years - and it makes Apple mail much more useful.

My other commercial mail plugin is MailHub. It's a little less expensive at $19.00 U.S.

I use the UI of MailHub more than Mail Act-On, but I use the under-the-hood features of MAO quite a lot – so I haven't been able to swap one for the other.

Fifty bucks is a fair amount of money to spend on mail plugins, but they have saved me an enormous amount of time and effort over many years now.
