Proposal: sanity for AppleScript error numbers?

  • Subject: Proposal: sanity for AppleScript error numbers?

Initial disclaimer: I am not a professional software developer. However, I do create AppleScripts that may be useful to other people. Sometimes, they have error conditions!

So: why on earth doesn’t somebody (I’m looking at you, Apple) maintain a registry of error numbers that would allow tracing them back to the offending code?

As far as I can tell, Apple doesn’t even have a coherent system for numbering its own application errors. So this might be a big leap for them.

But Holy Cow, doesn’t this cry out for somebody to take charge?
