Hi. Thanks, Ed, but that is not what I need.

The best I got so far is to simply display a Terminal or Console Window.

What system are you using? More recent versions give you access to the notification manager.

display notification

display notification (verb)Display a notification. At least one of the body text and the title must be specified. (from the User Interactionsuite, defined in  StandardAdditions.osax)

command syntax

display notification text ¬
     with title text ¬
     subtitle text ¬
     sound name text
