I couldn’t agree more with Ed . The simplicity of the syntax makes it very easy to implement this powerful freeware tool. And I’m already seeing far more possibilities for use than I first imagined.
A lot of my work for clients involves parsing large amounts of data into just what is needed for a section of a project. With Myriad Tables, I can first how all the data as a table, giving the user and extra chance to confirm that the source is correct. Then in a smaller table format I can show what the script determined was needed for the current automation. With that table, many options can be provided to the user beyond confirmation. You can give the user the ability to sort items or manually re-order rows, insert or delete rows, and even edit cells. All very powerful stuff.
I also see future uses for being able to present users with a log (via table) at the end of a script, highlighting problem areas. Or imagine allowing a user to set script preferences/properties in table format, instead of a kludgy approach of successive dialogs.
Lastly, when you think about it, almost any GUI interface can be based on a table grid. Since Myriad Tables has the ability to show combo boxes, checkboxes, and pop-ups, I have thoughts on using it to present a fairly sophisticated interface. Yes, I know there are other tools for this, but all add another level of complexity. With this in mind, I’m considering asking Shane for an optional parameter to remove the table border. But exploring this potential will have to wait until I have more time.
Thanks again, Shane. This is outstanding and ready for immediate use!
Ray
