10.11 additions to NSAppleEventDescriptor & Mac App Store

Folks;
I realize this may be the wrong list for this question but, if that is the case, maybe someone here has a useful pointer?
I was wowed by the additions to 10.11, for example, +descriptiorWithApplicationURL: (I haven’t looked at 10.12 yet..)
I’m thinking that there is just no way that these additions were made to NSFoundation if AS is a ‘dying' technology….
In any case, is there any documentation of any kind showing guidance on how to use these new capabilities and still pass muster as Mac App Store App?
All thoughts considered and appreciated,
