At Yvan & Steve: Thanks for the answer, Yvan, but I had already checked the two texts with Textwrangler: no irregularities found. To be sure, I followed your instructions with Textedit now: again all seems to be textually ok

At Steve: Actually, both scripts derive from the same source: a last years script for beeing called by QuicKeys (worked flawlessly for the past 11 month9, then turned into an applet by means of SE (again working proper). Yesterday I converted the applet again back to a script, and one is a backup of the other (but I dont remember which one :-). So no third party mingling in....Strange, isn't it?
