Typo, not caught because I
didn't really have any files with a ".jpeg" extension to process.
Shane, I was aware of your general dictate to avoid the Finder, but when
I tried it with System Events, it was erroring on the getting the
container, and it didn't when I targeted Finder, so I was just going for
what worked (up to that point, ant any rate).

Do you mean to have one extension with a "." and one without? Seems odd...
I'm also unsure why you involve the Finder at all.
