I'm wondering if there's any consensus as to what should be included in a "Standard Library"

One thing the AppleScript community lacks is consensus on nearly everything.

Plenty of people who don't get Apple choices but see they're not headed in the right direction for AS users ?

And plenty of people who have already signed change.org petitions and have seen they are pointless pseudo-activist things for feel-good people ? (and I've signed a bunch, just like I've clicked my lot of angry faces on Facebook, but I know exactly where that goes).

Because that's the place where the most people who care about automating their Macs are gathered ?

No way. If you're not happy with his mails, filter them out.

Have you written a useable standard library for Applescript that everybody can use right now ? No, has has.

Have you written a sensible automation solution to have Swift based Mac automation as a replacement for the legacy solution that we are left with by Apple ? No, has has too.

So, you may not agree with his rants and the way he delivers his message, but at least he puts his money where his mouth is. He's trying to provide us with solution that we can temporarily use to push Apple in the right direction.

Apple has introduced libraries a few versions back, but we still don't have a standard library. Let's push for one !

Apple has introduced its next generation language for iOS devices and Macs, let's push to have an automation solution based on that !

So, if you want to sign the petition, go ahead. Once you've signed it:

1) go to https://bugreport.apple.com
2) create a bug report "enhancement" to "macOS" to add a standard library to Applescript
3) since such reports are closed, make sure that you duplicate the report on http://openradar.appspot.com
4) back to https://bugreport.apple.com
5) create a bug report "enhancement" to "macOS" to add "Swiftautomation" to macOS 10.13
6) same as 3) above.

My own reports are:
http://openradar.appspot.com/29329704
http://openradar.appspot.com/29363517

Since last night, there are 2 more signatures on the petition but not one extra radar.

Jean-Christophe
