Shane, for once will you pretend you’re communicating with a dunderhead!I have no idea how to use NSUserDefaults, and copied something I found on the net, which has a dearth of information on the term.
OK, I take your point I should not interfere, but if there’s absolutely no way I can remove a dock icon, just say so in plain terms, rather than offer sketchy hope that there might be a way, because I’m not using the correct terminolgy.
I really appreciate any sound advice, but please understand not all of us have your (and Yvans) vast detailed knowledge, and we sometimes struggle.
Brian

You ignored the last lot, so you can ignore this too...
Stop. An app is in charge of its own icon's behavior in the Dock, and no other app is meant to be able to change it. There are system rules on when an icon should and should not appear, and you shouldn't expect the system to provide you with a reliable or simple way to override them.
The fact that this can sometimes be hacked doesn't make it any more reasonable to do, and if the OS has taken steps to make such hacking harder to do, then more power to the OS.
(And as for wrapping code in an NSUserDefaults tell block -- what are you thinking?)
