Hi folks,
With macOS 10.12 shipping and no new AppleScript improvements to speak
of, I finally got around to filing an enhancement request
(rdar://28465563) for a standard library to be added to AppleScript, as
this would provide significant benefit to ALL AppleScript users at very
little cost to Apple. Other AppleScripters who'd like to see decent
Text, Date, Math, and List processing commands included as standard are
encouraged to file their own tickets: the more requests Apple get for a
feature the more likely they are to do something about it.
I've copied my ticket to OpenRadar for public reference:

Feel free to duplicate it (just include the original `rdar://28465563`
ref to save the Radar minions unnecessary work).
Regards,

p.s. If anyone here's dabbling in Apple's Swift language, I have a new
SwiftAutomation framework that's getting close to done
(https://bitbucket.org/hhas/swiftae). Its design descends from
appscript, the only other proven, production-quality Apple event bridge
of the last 20 years, so should provide a genuine alternative to
AppleScript when done - from the technical standpoint at least. (Whether
or not I promote and support it further will depend on what, if any,
backing it can get amongst Swift/Apple developers: I'm not having users
sink lots of time and commitment into it with no sign of Apple giving a
crap for automation and won't just pull the rug out.) There's still
rough edges and bugs to shake out, and the docs are a half-baked mess,
but folks are certainly welcome to take a look and have a play if they
like. There's random bits of sample code in the project plus a nifty
AppleScriptToSwift.app that runs an AppleScript command and displays its
equivalent Swift syntax, no Swift experience required.
