display notification

"Exactly how the notification is presented is controlled by the “Notifications” preferences in System Preferences."

It says in the ASLG, but I'm not seeing anything that relates to arbitrary "display notification" calls from any AS app in System Preferences...

I can't seem to decide whether the display will be as a Banner or as an Alert, I can't seem to select where the notification will be seen either.

Any idea?
