I had something similar and it was suggested I rebuild Launch Server. Try this in Terminal:
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -seed
If it works, then send a thank you note to Philip (Stokes).
