You might be right, but the script is reviewing pdf printouts of emails and the software that did that may have automatically put the ligatures in when it saw, for example, "f" and "i" next to each other....

Is that even legal? Seems like having a ligature in a domain name is a
user error, not a problem you should have to work around.
