You don't have to have a printer to install the driver --- back when I had to deal with this sort of thing, I'd always install the Adobe PS and Apple generic LaserWriter driver and install various PPDs and add / edit page sizes as needed.

Over a beer I'll tell you about the longest day of my life, trying to get a PDF out of an early version of pdfTeX which would then pass the "Thomson Techno Task Force" pre-flight certification --- it required that one open the file in Adobe Acrobat Reader, and print to a Level 2 PostScript File, but one had to check "Use Level 3 Semantics".

Would someone tell me again how it's more important that Adobe have money, than that we all have the ability to use Display PostScript?

G’day all

In my quest to trim to Acrobat crop boxes, I’ve discovered that saving as TIFFS, with the media box set to the cop box, will save a ‘trmmed’ TIFF,  that can then be opened in Acrobat, enlarged as a PDF, and text boxes added on top.

However, I’ve been frustratede by the inability to locate information on the current maximum save Acrobat TIFF size, and now believe it’s locked into the maximum size your printer can print.

As I haven’t got a printer that prints more than A4, would anyone with Acrobat and an A3 printer mind helping out.

Regards

Santa

Please do the following.

1. Open GraphicConverter. (Or anything that can create an A3 document.)

2. Create a new document with a size of A3 (GC should recognize your printer can print A3).

3. Type something large on the window document.

4. Hit command-p

5. Choose the bottom left pop up PDF, and choose  ‘Save as Pdf’. Save it to the desktop. Close it.

6. Drag the new file from the Desktop to the Acrobat icon.

7. Choose the menu item File/Export To/Image/TIFF.

8. Click on ‘Save’

9. If no error window pops up, it means that A3 TIFFS can be saved.

10. Repeat from 7. If you get a ‘Replace’ dialog, then you’ve definitely succeeded.

Post the results, please!
