Finder in El Capitan 10.11.6
I try a very simple script:
tell application "FINDER"
set Fenster to finder window 1
end
The script produces an error: application not running! Can't be, Finder is up and running. OK, maybe quitting and restarting Finder will do a magic...
I therefore open the "Force Quit" window, and oh oh: I have not only one, I have 2 Finders in the "Force Quit" window. I do not have any clue where it comes from.
Checking ActivityMonitor: there's only one Finder running. Quit it in Activity Monitor. All desktop vanishes, as expected, Finder's activity sign in dock is gone, but: there's still a Finder in the "force quit" window.
Clicking the restart button has no result. When clicking the Finder's dock icon, a small bubble appears above it with one simple question: "open?". Clicking that, a message appears stating that the program "Finder" is not anymore running.
No chance whatsoever to get Finder up again, but all the rest is working normally (even saving this text to disk).
What's going on here?
Thanks for any advice
Rudolf
PS: And yes, naturally logout/login is a remedy, but VERY cumbersome
