After much looking I gather the number badge idea is not an option.
So... I'm now trying to change the folder icon to a number that would indicate the number of files contained. I don't expect to go over 9.
This seems doable but the necessary changes to Terminal seem somewhat obscure.
Haven't looked into GUI yet.
Any help would be appreciated.
