IMO, the key part of that article is at the beginning: "JSON objects are used
for transferring data between server and client, XML serves the same purpose."
That's true -- but transferring data between server and client is not what the
OP is after.
Yes, JSON can be more human-readable. But the OP specifically said the aim was
to parse and manipulate the data via script, so I'm not sure it's relevant.
There are situations where JSON makes much more sense than XML. I'm just not
convinced this is one of them.
