After the PrefsStorageLib announcement I wrote an AppleScript application that
employs it. I have no problems with my script app in Mojave (10.14.4) after
providing the necessary Accessibility and Full Disk Access privileges using the
Security prefpane. When I open the app in Script Editor in El Capitan
(10.11.6), I can run it normally if Script Editor has been allowed
Accessibility in the Security prefpane. However, when I try to run the
standalone app after allowing the same access for the app allowed for Script
Editor, the following error dialog appears with only an OK button: “The
'prepare storage' command was unable to initialize user defaults. Unknown
error”.
My suspicion is that a security measure is being applied, but no measure for
allowing access using the interface for that version of the system (10.11.6)
has been implemented. Do you think that’s what is happening? Is there a way to
script a security allowance beyond what allowances are provided by the
interface? Would signing my AppleScript application allow it to enjoy the same
Accessibility privileges inherently provided to Script Editor? Thanks.
