FWIW, I sometimes see the problem when there are large numbers of files. It's
as if the file gets selected (Get Info shows it is), but the containing
folder's window doesn't scroll far enough to show it. It seems more likely to
happen if the window hasn't been opened recently. I concluded the problem is in
the tools telling the Finder what to do, but rather in either the Finder
itself, or the table view the Finder is using to display the list. Purely
speculation.
