Mail.app defaults every folder to “Sort newest messages on top” when set to sort by date. This offends my sensibilities and I find it fiddle to change it. Especially since the way my mail works on the server new folders are a frequent occurrence. I have not been able to find a way to chchange this via AppleScript, though I am sure I could do it using the rather heavy-handed System Events to click the menu and choose the option from the dropdown list.
Does anyone have any other ideas? Has anyone already done this?
I think, this is an impossible issue (as you think).
If you want to browse mails in your favorite order, you have to browse them by using Numbers, FileMaker Pro or the other helper applications.
Mail can link email content by using “ message://“ link from other application contents (html and the others).
I made an AppleScript to visualize mail-flow by using Dot language and browse it by GraphViz. The library I wrote for dot language composing contains mail-linking function. So, I can browse mail-flow and each e-mail by clicking each node on Graphviz.
