All that security stuff can be a PINTA, but it is needed.
For AppleScript the solution is to register as a developer, pay the fee, and

BTW I have been paying that ransom for. A few years and I still got the have to
tell it let it through every time on apples stupid security panel.
However recently I found a way around it by only changing the called on scripts
while leaving the main one alone in Xcode ( you still have to go through all of
the silly motions if you so much as breath on the APPDelegate one but if you do
outside calls
They will keep the change without the system panel aggravation .
But its only running Catalina so I am sure they closed this on future ones

As for Monterrey, I upgraded a few months ago and I have no regrets. There are
no appleScript issues that I was not able to easily resolve (often with help
from those forums above). As I recall there were two kinds of issues that had
to be dealt with:
No more third party Scripting Additions
Increased security requiring code signing/notarizing
And exactely this is the PITA: I have around 700 scripts still from Snow
Leopard (but I'm not a developer and therefore do not sign my applets). I
upgraded first to Monterey, after too much problems with it then to Big Sur. I
can open any applet I have, but I can not anymore save and close it, some
security error pops each time up saying that security does not allow code
signing changes. I have to copy the code, throw the applet away, copy the code
to a new script and save as an applet. Then you may add it to the respective
security panel of the system preferences. I have to repeat this procedures each
time I open the applet for a change.
Do you mean you downgraded to Big Sur from Monterrey? Were your problems with
Monterrey related to AppleScript? Can I avoid the signing problem by paying
the $100 a year ransom to become an Apple Developer?
