Compiling ASOC

ASOC is compiled with /usr/bin/osacompile.
In general it would seem AppleScript Editor cannot compile ASOC class definitions.

My questions are.

1. Does the conventional AS OSA component play any role in compiling ASOC?
2. I can get syntax highlighted source from the OSA component but not from osacompile I presume.
3. How does xcode get syntax highlighted source? Does it just run the ASOC plain text through a separate highlighter?
