That's what the section called 'Referring to Objects' is about: there's a
full description and illustration.

(You make a property set to missing value, and in Interface Builder you
connect the property to the text field. Then you can use the property to
refer to the text field.)

Not to be difficult, but you really will find it easier if you work through
some of the exercises...
