My most profound apologies Shane. I read all of your suggestions, but I'm so damn tired they just didn't sink in.

Anyway, I tried a direct comparison of the NSColors; the one I'm trying to trap, against the reference, and the comparison works! Couldn't have done it without your suggested 'attributesAtIndex_effectiveRange_().
allowing me to get the Attributed text attributes, so thank you.

Now, I'm off to bed. If tiredness can make me overlook your advice, then I desperately need to catch up on my sleep.
