A p p l e U s e r G r o u p B u l l e t i n | Leaders Aug 19, 2002
.......................................................................
Dear user group leaders,
Here is our first AUGB with user group specials since the week of
Macworld NY. And speaking of MWNY, it was great spending time with many
of you in New York -- thanks very much to all the user group leaders in
attendance, most of whom traveled great distances to be with us for
Macworld NY in July.
Things are pretty exciting around here as we gear up for the launch of
Mac OS X v. 10.2 later this week. Many local resellers are having
special events this weekend and all our Apple Stores will have a very
special night this Friday beginning at 10:20 pm sharp. If you live near
an Apple Store you'll definitely want to attend the event this Friday
night, August 23.
I want to say a special thank you to the Lorene Romero for lassoing this
month's vendor specials, and Elsa Travisano for her work in editing this
month's bulletin.
Also, we want to wish a fond farewell to David Roemer who put in yet
another productive summer here in Cupertino working on several
initiatives including the refresh of the user group website. David's off
to graduate school in Scotland, but don't worry, he'll be back running
the show before you know it.
Enjoy the rest of the summer!
Garr

.......................
Have you been to the Apple User Groups website recently? If you haven't,
check it out today. As you'll see, we redesigned it so that it is easier
for visitors to locate the "find a group" button and learn why they
should join a group. We also tried to make information and tools for
leaders more accessible. Additionally, the new site has a special
section for those interested in participating in or starting user groups
on campuses.
Let us know what you think about the new site by emailing us at

5] - User Groups Pitch In to Help with Moby Tour
.......................
Macintosh user group leaders and members helped staff the Apple iPod
Booth at this year's Area2 Festival. Concert goers got hands-on iPod
demos in between sets by notable artists such as Moby, David Bowie, the
Blue Man Group, Busta Rhymes and more. Over 200 Mac faithful volunteered
for the 12-city tour; well over 100 of the volunteers (nearly 60%) were
from local user groups. Way to go!
Several groups have put up photos of their participation in the tour:

the MaMUGs website.
