.......................................................................
Dear user group leaders,
Hello again from sunny Cupertino. I hope all is well for you as we say
goodbye to summer and head in to the fall season.
Since the last AUGB in August, we launched the latest version of the Mac
OS, Mac OS X v. 10.2. As you may know, we kicked off the launch with a
special night at all of our Apple Stores August 23. The turnout was
unbelievable and the long lines of people waiting to get in to the stores
were filled with user group members. 100,000 copies of Mac OS X version
10.2 "Jaguar" were sold worldwide during that weekend, setting a new
record for Mac OS sales for a single weekend.
Mac users are also showing their enthusiasm for Apple's .Mac. The number
of .Mac subscriptions is now over 100,000 and growing quickly. We
announced to user group Ambassadors (USA, Canada) about ten days ago
that they will now be able to register for one free .Mac account for
their user group via the Learn & Earn program. If your Ambassador did
not get the email announcement, they can contact us here at
email@hidden.
In the weeks ahead we will have information about user group activities
at Macworld San Francisco 2003. It will be here before you know it.
Talk to you soon.

WHAT'S NEW - LEADERS
_____________________________________________________________________
1] - Ambassadors Gain Access to Learn & Earn
.......................
Ambassadors for Apple-recognized user groups [in the U.S. and Canada]
now have access to the Learn & Earn Program, which in the past has been
available only to authorized resellers, ACNs, and other Apple partners.
Learn & Earn is a wonderful tool that can help your group's Ambassador
become as knowledgeable as possible about Apple technology.
What is Learn & Earn? Learn & Earn is an online system that offers you
many opportunities to learn about the Apple solutions that your members
want. Because most of the courses are online, you can learn on your own
schedule. You'll have easy access to timely information that will help
you address your members' needs.
All user group Ambassadors have been automatically registered with Learn
& Earn, and should have received an email with instructions for logging
in to the system through their group's Apple Sales Web account.
Make sure that your group's Ambassador has received the Learn & Earn
information, and is taking advantage of Learn & Earn.
Not sure who your group's ambassador is? You need to access your
database record and look at your group9s contact list to see who has
been assigned the Apple Ambassador role. If you don9t know how to access
your database record, you need to request your group9s name and password
by emailing us at email@hidden.

2] - Free .Mac Account for User Group Ambassadors [in the U.S. and Canada]
.....................
Each User Group Ambassador is now eligible to receive one free .Mac
account to be used for the benefit of his or her user group. Ambassadors
can get the free .Mac account by passing the .Mac learning module
through the Learn & Earn program. If you would like a .Mac email address
and website for your group, this is the way to do it.
This account is a full .Mac account which will let you show your members
all that is possible with .Mac. You can post photos and movies of your
group, create web pages for your group, send and receive group email,
back up group information, and much more. To learn more about .Mac,
please visit
http://www.mac.com.
Your group's ambassador should have received an email with detailed
instructions for accessing Learn & earn and receiving the free .Mac
account for your group.

3] - Leveraging ASW and the Quarterly Apple Mailbox
.....................
As Apple's liaison to your group, your group's Ambassador has access to
the Apple Sales Web (ASW) website, which provides information on
products and programs, presentation slides and scripts, QuickTime
product movies, product photography and more. Your group's ambassador
should be sharing these resources with the appropriate group leaders and
volunteers - for example, product photographs for the newsletter editor
and webmaster, and presentation scripts, slide shows and QuickTime
movies for the program presenters.
Groups can also purchase Apple Logo merchandise through ASW - current
offerings include short sleeve polo shirts, briefcases, travel mugs,
pens and the OS 10.2 Jaguar T-shirt.
The Apple Mailbox, which is mailed to Ambassadors quarterly, also
contains many valuable resources for user groups. Mailboxes include the
latest product, program and promotional information from Apple Sales
Web, plus other technical and marketing sales tools and information. The
August Apple Mailbox contains Steve Jobs' July Macworld Expo NY keynote
speech on DVD.
Make sure that your Ambassador is taking advantage of these resources.

4] - Casady & Greene iData Pro
.......................
Casady & Greene iData Pro is the long-awaited application for Mac OS X,
Mac OS 9 and Windows that users of QuickDex, Super QuickDex and
InfoGenie 1.x-2.x have been clamoring for. Casady & Greene is offering
iData Pro to user group members for only $19.95, a 50% savings.
iData Pro is to David Pogue what Spell Catcher 8 is to Bob Levitus: a
must-have app. "Computers are great, but where are we supposed to stash
all of our names and numbers, serial numbers, passwords, brainstorms,
driving directions, and notes? Trying to stuff them into a typical
field-based database was an exercise in insanity. What the world needs
is a program like iData, which lets me keep every scrap of information
in one central place, only one keystroke away -- and even sync it to the
Palm. Now I can move into Mac OS X for good!" - David Pogue, best
selling author and columnist.
