Dear user group leaders,
The user group community would like to extend our thanks to the U.S.
Apple
Regional Liaisons whose terms recently ended: Lynn Poos, Steve Welsh,
Sandy
Foderick, Chris Bastian, Mike Henigan and Jed Mark. They helped create
the
program, and have spent countless hours assisting user groups all
across the
country. We would not be where we are today without their help.
That brings us to the future U.S. Regional Liaisons. Could one of them
be
you or someone you know? For details on how to apply or nominate
someone,
see below.

COMMUNITY NEWS - LEADERS
_____________________________________________________________________
1] - Join the Regional Liaison Team
.......................
You or someone you know could be a big part of the future of Apple user
groups. Apple is looking for volunteers to serve as U.S. Regional
Liaisons
(RLs). Candidates should have good communication skills, an
understanding of
the challenges facing user group leaders and members, and a desire to be
involved in regional and national user group activities.
Regional Liaisons are an important link between individual user groups
and
the larger user group community. To learn more about these positions,
visit
the Apple Regional Liaison page at
http://www.apple.com/usergroups/contact/liaisons/new.html
To volunteer or to nominate a candidate, send an email to
email@hidden and tell us why you or the person you are
nominating is
qualified. Please include the name, title (i.e. vice president), user
group
name, user group web site, city, state, and a brief description of the
candidate's recent user group responsibilities.

2] - For A Switch
.......................
Is your group looking for ways to leverage Apple's "Switcher" campaign
to
attract Windows users to the Mac? Apple User Group Advisory Board member
Warren Williams has come up with some excellent suggestions.
- Invite a recently "switched" member of your group to describe the
experience of switching to the Mac and the reasons he/she is glad to be
a Mac user. Include a discussion of really cool things that Mac users
take for granted.
- Start a switcher special interest group (hopefully, run by a
switcher).
- Partner with a PC user group in your area. Have a combined meeting to
cover how Macs and Windows PCs can live in harmony (especially with Mac
OS
X). Given how well the Mac integrates into our digital lifestyles, we're
betting that you'll get some PC users interested in adding a Mac to
their
house or even switching outright.
- Do a "Switcher's Night" and highlight applications that work on both
Windows and Mac (Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop Elements, Quicken,
etc.).
Do a demo of Detto Technologies' Move2Mac. Encourage members to bring
Windows-using friends and family.
Here are some resources from apple.com/switch to help kick start your
ideas:

http://www.apple.com/switch/whyswitch/
- Guide to Switching

Has your group done any successful switcher related activities? Tell us
about them by emailing email@hidden.

3] - Is Your Locator Info Up-To-Date?
.......................
One of the cool resources for user groups registered with Apple is the
User Group Locator, where Apple users who wish to find a group can
look you up. In order to keep this resource at its most effective,
it's important to keep your group's information up-to-date. Now is a
good time to check your group's entry and make sure that everything is
current.
http://www.apple.com/usergroups/find/
Note: Apple will routinely check for broken links and may contact you
to fix your group's info. If we don't hear back from you, we may
take your group out of the locator until the links are working right.
Email email@hidden with any questions.

4] - Getting Started With Mac OS X v10.2 CD
.......................
A number of user group leaders have expressed an interest in the
"Getting Started with Mac OS X v10.2" CD included with the CD set
provided free to teachers under the "X for Teachers" program.
You can purchase this CD at the online Apple store:
http://store.apple.com
To find it, click on the "Apple Training" link under "Business
Services" at
the bottom left side of the page.

5] - FACUG Spring Conference
.......................
The Florida Association of Computer User Groups will hold their spring
conference February 28 to March 2, 2003 in Kissimmee, Florida. FACUG, a
consortium of 46 PC and Mac user groups in the southeastern U.S., is a
prime
example of cross-platform user group synergy. The conference is for user
group leaders and working members. For registration information, go to:
http://www.facug.org/03springconf.htm

6] - Group Milestones
.......................
We'd like to hear about your group's milestones--5 year, 10 year, 15
year
anniversaries, hitting the 100 member mark, or other achievements that
are
important to your group. Send us your milestones at email@hidden.
