2] - MUG Website Tips & Tricks
.......................
Whip your websites into shape with this ongoing website tip series by
Lesa Snider, User Group Advisory Board member and professional web
developer.
This month's tips will keep your visitors from getting lost as they
navigate your website.
1. Leave a trail of breadcrumbs. Let visitors know where they are within
your website by adding a row of text links at the top of each page
forming a directory-style path. Example:
Home > Event Schedule > May
2. Give them a site map. Create a page that lists links to each page of
your site in a simple organization chart format. This gives visitors
quick page access and a visual representation of the site (helpful in
search engine indexing as well).
3. Annotate your links. Let visitors know what to expect by including a
brief description of where and what they're about to encounter. This is
true for internal links (leading to other pages within your site) as
well as external links (leading to another website altogether).
4. Non-verbal cues. Let visitors know they've left your site by having
external links open in a new browser window. Just add the following
attribute to an anchor tag: target="_blank" Example (anchor tag
intentionally left open so you can see the code):
<a href="
http://www.cowtownmug.org" target="_blank">url...
5. Be consistent. Make sure each page of your website includes these
elements:
- logo or site identifier (on interior pages link logo to the home page)
- global navigation elements (main pages, search boxes, site map, etc.)
- text equivalents to global navigation options at the bottom of the
page - global utilities (log in, ecommerce, etc.)
- contact information (email, phone, and/or address)

3] - Macworld Magazine Survey
.......................
Macworld Magazine is conducting an informal survey, and would be very
interested in input from the Apple user group community. You can help by
emailing the following information to your membership list or posting it
to your newsletter:
The Zinio digital edition of Macworld is already becoming popular with
readers. Macworld would like to find out if readers would be interested
in purchasing a full year of Macworld digital issues on CD (including
the newsstand-only special issues). This would be the perfect way for
readers to carry an archive of Macworld wherever they go. The digital
issues are fully searchable, and would include a complete index to all
the issues on the CD. Macworld might even do some back issues of
previous years in the Zinio format if there is sufficient interest.
Please direct your feedback to Sharon at email@hidden.
For information on Zinio, go to:
http://www.macworld.com/2003/04/news/macworldzinio/

potential speakers and more.

groups to find the closest Apple resellers, consultants, trainers and
service providers. The Locator also provides convenient links to more
than a dozen Internet and catalog resellers; many of them sell
internationally.
To use the Locator, click the type of resource you're looking for. Then
type in your address (city and zip code work fine) to pull up a list of
providers in a given radius, complete with driving distance from your
location. Clicking on the name of a reseller or service provider pulls
up a handy InfoNow map. The Locator also helps find specialized
resources for business, education and government users. Check out the
Locator at:
