Apple User Group Bulletin
October 17, 2003
.......................................................................
Dear User Group Leaders,
Apple is letting a new cat out of the bag!
Mac OS X v10.3 "Panther" will be released October 24. To kick off the
release, Apple Stores will be holding events from 8 p.m. to midnight.
The MUG Center has some great ideas for ways your group can promote
itself and join in the fun. For those of you not near an Apple Store,
check with your local Apple resellers. Many of them are planning their
own Panther events.
Looking for resources to help present Panther to your group? Your
Ambassador will find a wealth of information at the Apple Sales Web and
Apple Sales Training Online websites (U.S. and Canada groups).
Don't miss these opportunities to excite your user group members about
the power of Panther.

2] - CapMac's iChat AV Visit
.......................
CapMac of Austin, Texas used iChat AV and iSight to bring a surprise
visitor to their tenth anniversary meeting at the University of Texas.
President Glenn Chase tells how it was done.
"The presenter provided the PowerBook and iSight camera for the demo. To
prepare for the meeting, all the group had to do was make sure that the
University had the requisite network ports open. Cell phone numbers were
exchanged ahead of time to cue the "surprise call" from the guest....
"A test call was made to check the network before the meeting began. The
iSight camera is so small and unobtrusive that no one even noticed it
attached to the presenter's PowerBook while he did his demo. Once he
completed his presentation about Panther the call came in from the
guest, and the audience got to see iChat AV in action as he answered and
started the videoconference."
If you would like to invite a member of the User Group Advisory Board to
appear virtually at your group's meeting, let us know by emailing a
request to email@hidden.

3] - Focus Group Four
.......................
Michael Briney of Apple Corps of Dallas, Dan East of the Mid-Atlantic
Macintosh User Groups Team, Jim Foster of Macintosh Users East and Alex
Podressoff of Arizona Macintosh Users Group joined members of the User
Group Advisory Board and the Regional Liaison Team on August 19 for the
fourth in a series of focus groups with user group leaders.
The focus group calls allow leaders to interact directly with the UGAB
and RL teams and provide feedback and recommendations on a variety of
topics. Topics for this session included user group resource needs,
regional events and peer-to-peer communications.

5] - Myriad Font
.......................
User group officers have asked about the new Myriad Font, found in some
Apple Sales Web presentations. While the font is not available for
download, presentations on ASW usually come in two varieties and the
Reseller-Retail Version does not require proprietary fonts. If your
group has a Myriad preso, Helvetica makes a good substitute.

6] - iPod + iTunes = Ideas
.......................

Francisco. iTunes 4.1 for both Mac AND Windows was launched as well as
some nice upgrades to the iTunes Music Store (gift certificates,
allowances, artist playlists and more) and to the iPod (voice notes
and digital photo storage).
