Apple User Group Bulletin - May 17, 2005
...................................................................
Hi User Group Leaders,
Please join me in welcoming Alex Podressoff and George Kopp to the
Regional Liaison (RL) volunteer team.
Alex is a long time member of Arizona Macintosh User's Group where he
started as a volunteer disk copier on his "portable" Mac SE. After
several terms as vice-president, Alex is now in his second term as
president. Alex is an IT asset manager who is also very active in his
community. Alex will be volunteering as the Southwest U.S. RL.
George is a founding member of the appleJAC Mac User Group, where he
has been president, vice president, secretary, editor, treasurer,
librarian and, now, web master. George works for the Missouri Highway
and Transportation Department managing the Computer Aided Drafting
and Design systems for over 600 users statewide. He is a registered
Professional Engineer, a certified Apple technician and dedicated Mac
and PC consultant. George will be volunteering as the North Central
U.S. RL.
Welcome Alex and George!
Enjoy!

2] - Helping Others: The MacBus Scholarship Program
.......................
MacBus is proud to be taking an active role in youth involvement.
MacBus focuses on the business and professional uses of the Macintosh
operating system. They offer an annual scholarship program to identify
and reward those students enrolled at the University of the Arts who
show likely promise as business-oriented Macintosh users (and possible
future MacBUS members).
At their May 17 Awards Banquet the top student will win a $250 (US)
scholarship and iPod Shuffle, while second place will receive a $50 (US)
scholarship award.
Meet this generous and active group.

weekend, starting with a visit to the Princeton Macintosh User Group,
where more than 155 attendees were expected. On May 14 he visited Main
Line MUG in Paoli, Pennsylvania. In between he offered a Mac OS X
workshop for the region. Talk about a great way to spend a weekend.

Many people know Ben Waldie, president of the Philadelphia Area
AppleScript User's Group, from his wonderful user group presentations
and many years at Macworld events. Now he is spreading the word about
Automator, one of Tiger's many new features. You can catch his "Birds

7] - TMUG Presentations: Meetings With Impact
......................
Ever notice how many groups have thriving SIGs while their main
meetings go unnoticed? Tucson Macintosh User Group (TMUG) shows the
benefits of keeping meetings lively.
Presenters? Look for members who have expertise. Please an audience?
Offer multiple, concurrent, sessions, so guests can be sure to find
something to suit their interests and skill levels. Want a full house
for meetings? Make sure that all major outlets get the news early
enough to pass the word along. Like TMUG, you can make every meeting
one to remember.

8] - Podcasting Made Easy: dBug Shows the Way
......................
Have you been hearing a lot of buzz about podcasts? Podcasts are
audio files in talk show format that you can download to your iPod
and listen to at your convenience. Seattle's dBUG helped potential
podcasters get up to speed during their May meeting. dBUG Member
Curtis Snow explained podcasting, then Omaha Sternberg of Mac Radio
showed members how it's done.
Along with the usual raffle prizes, one lucky attendee won (what
else?) an iPod Shuffle. Their Mac OS X SIG is presenting Tiger on May
18.
This is one group that does not let grass grow under their feet.
Cast a look at dBug.
