Although they are quite different, there are many similarities between the
two. You need to adopt to Mac OS X and do your demonstrations in OS X
because you are a technology focused group. Anyone who joins a tech group
knows that technology changes very rapidly. If you are focusing on antiques,
then call your group that.
Mac OS 9 has been declared 'dead' by Steve Jobs, so I suggest that you move
up to OS X or your group will be left in the dust. You'll eventually limit
yourselves severely because many new applications (such as Office v. X) will
not run in Mac OS 9.
I don't think its a good idea to 'separate' because it separates the
community aspect of your group. Eventually, everyone will use OS X or they
will not change anything with their computer, so why not give them a taste
of the future?
You might also want to suggest in your presentations... "You can do a
similar thing in Mac OS 9 by doing this..." to keep OS 9 users happy. And if
the program isn't offered in a Mac OS X native format such as Quark, then
don't run it in Classic, run it in 9.
But overall, I think we all have to get with OS X because we'll end up
losing more new members in the short term, while over the long-term we'll
retain our members because they will most likely end up using OS X
eventually.
