I disagree somewhat. There are a number of members who are getting their
machines as hand me downs and can't run OSX or their are members that
feel that OS9 (and earlier) fit their needs. We need to support them and
if at sometime we can point out that OSX provides a simpler/better/more
efficient way of doing things then point it out, but still support the
non-OSX user. Certainly one way to do that is via separate SIGs. That is
how Apple Corp of Dallas has decided to handle the process. I run a Basic
Mac SIG that covers the basics of OS 9 and tries to answer questions of
that cover earlier systems. We also have an OS X SIG that covers topics
specific for it. And a couple of months a go the past president started
an Advanced SIG that looks at networking and other more "advanced" uses.
In our 2 hour main meetings, the subject is usually a vendor presentation
that is aimed at OSX users since that is what the vendors are pushing.
But in some cases, the app works on both. That to me is appropriate.
Meanwhile, I think some of the members get more benefit from the informal
sessions between SIGS or in the hall during the SIGs.
