I fail to see where Apple owes your MUG a thing.
You must have a very narrow view of how the world works. Or maybe you
don't understand how much good work user groups do. Whether you like it
or not, Apple has benefitted from our labors. Strictly speaking, you
are right, Apple 'owes' us nothing. There's no contract. We have no
tit-for-tat agreement.\
While you're putting your other foot in your mouth to stay warm, I'd
like to point out some things to you, Tim. To suggest that I have no
idea of how much good work a UG does shows that you don't read - you
react. For your benefit, I will give you my credentials once again:

Our group, located in NJ in case you missed it again, just sent about a
dozen Classic Macs gratis to about a dozen people in Virginia. They
were assembled and repaired by a dozen or so users in our group. I
myself wear a handful of hats in our group. I have been courted by
other groups within our area to either run for elected office in their
UG and/or write monthly columns for their newsletters. I have had
several pieces published in e-zines reviewing software. And I have done
all of this without once asking Apple for a handout.
So please don't question my UG knowledge or ability without knowing the
facts.
Regarding "Strictly speaking, you are right, Apple 'owes' us nothing.
There's no contract. We have no tit-for-tat agreement.", it would seem
that you agree with my stance, except for your emotional reaction.
We, as user groups, have no legal claims against Apple. We present no
bill for our unsolicited services. But we need not be blind to the lack
of support we get from Apple.
But you yourself said "Strictly speaking, you are right, Apple 'owes'
us nothing." So what's your argument?
You can disagree with my opinion that Apple should show more support
for user groups. Fine, good for you. You are a true capitalist,
possibly a libertarian, and sincere in your beliefs, I'm sure.
I'm an Independent. What does that have to do with my opinion on this
subject?
But you'll never convince me that Apple doesn't benefit from our
labors, and that in a fair world, they'd show us a little (more)
respect and support.
Fine, then we can end this bickering for the benefit of other group
members.
That's how this kind of discourse works. We make logical suppositions
and try to support them. I'm entitled to make mine, as you are yours.
Some turn out to be true, some only appear so. And some are just plain
wrong.
Ouch! :)

P.S. I apologize to other readers but I have busted my butt for years
and for free, and I will not let some stranger belittle my countless
hours of dedication.
I'm sorry if this thread got on your nerves.
