Hi Everyone,
Last week was extremely busy so pardon my latency in responding..

Jonas, I have asked around our community and no one I know has ever heard of
those ads. We did hear of that story which is what I made reference to last
week. I would like to see this commercial. Was it ever broadcasted? Do
you have a URL?
We did hear of this demonstration but never saw or heard tell of any Apple
published commercials for it.

I would not agree they are great ads, but I am exuberant that Apple is
trying something different. Albeit not up to the high standards, I and most
people expect from Apple.
Yesterday was the first time I had to sit and relax in about a week. Was
watching television and caught a new "Switch" ad on WIS TV in Columbia SC.
(for those who do not know this, where I live which is about 15 minutes
south of Charlotte NC skyscrapers in a medium size city of Rock Hill SC yet
I get three distinct metro tv markets: Greenville/Spartanburg SC/Asheville
NC, Columbia SC and Charlotte NC which is my region even though I live in
South Carolina).
The first time I saw the new ad with the guy in the suit it was fine -
actually this new ad is a bit better than the previous ones; however, it did
strike me as odd that Apple would be advertising in an off market like
Columbia when there no outlets for purchasing Macs.
As far as I understand the issue from the Sumpter MUG, unless you are a USC
Student, you have to drive to either Charlotte, Atlanta, Savannah or
Greenville to buy a Mac which leaves South Carolina wide open for an
in-person Mac sales outlet.
Later Sunday night, I saw several switch ads on ABC and frankly, after
watching two of them the third one was downright annoying by the fifth I was
channel surfing. Now if I, and ardent Apple supporter, am turning these ads
off, then the rest of the public is going to be doing the same only faster.
BIG PROBLEM WITH THE SWITCH CAMPAIGN: NO HOOK, NO CALL TO ACTION, NO
DIVERSITY, BIG TURN OFF (except for that Hot Girl).
The ad that should be the most effective is the one with the programmer and
he is so poorly spoken, or perhaps the ad is so poorly edited that this
particular ad dies a horribly painful death onscreen.
I think a lot of members on this list do a disservice to themselves and
Apple by not expressing their opinions. If you genuinely like something,
say so and be honest about it. If you do not like it, or have ideas that
would help Apple improve then you owe it to yourself, your community and to
Apple to express those thoughts and opinions so that we may all, Apple
included, improve.
My personal best,
Randy Marshall
