Unlike the movies - where I have an option of purchasing popcorn at a
separate price, this is more like a health club - where it's usually an all
or nothing deal. You pay for the privilege of being able to use the
facilities. It's your option if you choose to use the treadmill or bike or
sauna - but no one makes you do so. If the price is too rich for your tastes
and all you want to do is lift weights then you can either join a weights
only club or buy yourself a set from another vendor.
If .mac has too much for you or you feel it is too much then find another
vendor who offers what it is you want...e-mail? Fine. There's plenty of it
out there - some for only $5/month. Personal web URL - $9.95/year and some
include the email. And so on.
I usually lurk on this list specifically because of the opinionated views of
many people who just want to view the glass as half empty and seem to have
the attitude that they are entitled to it all for free. As I've said before -
there is no free lunch.
And if you have this attitude on this list I would hate to see how it affects
your MUG as well. .mac is being offered as an option for people. Apple is a
business. No they are not going to necessarily customize the options for each
and eveyone of us. But no one said it is mandatory for MUG's or Mac users to
sign up for it as well.
So maybe now it is time to let sleeping macs die and get onto more productive
POSITIVE things.
An aside - Thank you to those of you that sent me private email that
supported my previous post. Those of you that live for the flame...you didn't
have to flame me to my box nor would it have been necessary to do it here -
but this forum would have been preferable. If you are that scared to flame
publicly then don't do it at all. Better yet don't do it - Manners and
courtesy are what separate us from the animals...
