First let me welcome you to the list. Apple does reach around the world
and it's iunteresting to see China join the groups.
Now onto my questions:
1. On Sept. 17th, I got an AUGB list message from Garr Reynolds
detailling that U.S. and Canadian User Group Ambassadors would get a
.Mac account free for their group. My question is: what makes it that
the rest of the world can't get one? It is free, after all...
2. Second, I'm not sure if these services are available to non-U.S. and
non-Canadian groups:
- resource DVDs to Apple Ambassadors.
- mail out marketing materials such as posters for events and
merchandise for raffles.
- provide training materials.
- support regional events and send Apple presenters to local user group
meetings whenever possible.
I checked the question, "What's available outside of the U.S. and
Canada?" on the same page. Little or nothing was heard of these topics
I listed above.
I'm really hoping Apple in the States can do a lot for its global
groups. Of course I'm also on good terms with some folks at Apple China.
As to your questions, all are questions that I'm sure Amaya will chime
in, but generally Apple has different policys around the world. Way
back a few years ago in a general discussions of user groups, the issue
was discussed and things began to change from there.
Ambassadors will get a CD. I have never heard of them getting DVDs.
Materials again get sent to the Ambassadors. As to Raffles, the groups
here didn't wait for a copy of Jaguar, but went out and bought it. The
Jaguar sent to the group will be raffled off.
When I was deeply involved, I made sure I had good relations locally.
You should expand your friendship with Apple China. As to what's
available outside the states, the more dialogue there is about it here
and in China, the more options and opportunities will open up. I cannot
predict what they might or will be, but it does work. Keep posting
here. And other leaders will respond.
David
