MUG MASTERS: NEW SECTION OF THE MUG CENTER OPENS WITH DISTINGUISHED AUTHORS
MUG Masters is a new series of articles by Macintosh User Group Leaders
who are "doing it right" - delivering value to their members by heading
up successful groups as well as being aware of and involved in the global
MUG community on a consistent basis. These progressive leaders have been
invited to share their wisdom, insight, advice and opinion on operating
and growing a successful Macintosh User Group.
We are pleased to have the first installment of MUG Masters contributed
by Warren Williams and Cathleen Merritt of the Appleworks Users Group.
"Tips for Attracting New Members" is an excellent collection of ideas on
how to attract new members and keep them once you find them. Watch for
additional articles by other MUG Master leaders in the weeks to come.

The third in a series of focus groups was conducted by the User Group
Advisory Board on September 16. These sessions allow individual MUG
leaders to interact with the UGAB members, Regional Liaison Team, and the
Apple User Group Program on a direct basis and provide feedback and
recommendations on a variety of designated topics. This session discussed
issues surrounding the "Switch" campaign and user groups, the perception
by the youth market, resources that would be useful to MUGs, the social
aspect of MUGs, interaction between campus and community groups, and

BOSTON USER GROUPS' "MEGAMEETING III" COMING THIS WEEK
Boston has recently become a hot-bed of user group activity. With
community groups becoming more active and organized (Boston Macintosh),
specialty groups stepping up to international status (Boston Final Cut
Pro Users Group) and even campus groups in the area coming into their own
(Boston College Macintosh Users Group), it is clear that there is some
serious synergy going on in New England. And that's just a sampling from
the Mac side of the table!
Boston User Groups, Inc., (BUG) a regional organization run by
volunteers, will be holding MegaMeeting III on September 25 at the
Sheraton Tara in Framingham. Speakers and their presentations include:
- Bob Davis, former CEO of Lycos and Terra Lycos, and currently a
venture partner at Highland Capital Partner - Street Smart Lessons from
the Front Lines of Business.
- Steve Melanson, president of Northeast Data Vault - The State of
Internet Data Centers and Security in the post-9/11 Era.
There will also be BUG members and sponsors exhibition. Complete details
are available on the BUG site. (Thanks to P.A.M. Borys of MacWoburn for
alerting us to this story.)
FINAL CUT PRO USER GROUP NEWS ROUND-UPFinal Cut Pro User Group News Round-Up
One of the fastest-growing segments of the MUG community is composed of
Final Cut Pro User Groups. Dan Berube of the Boston Final Cut Pro User
Group recently reported on the many happenings in the FCP UG Network in
his group's email newsletter, Weekly Revolution NEWS. If you've wondered
if user groups are growing, take a look at just the FCP segment!
(NOTE: Because of the length of this report, it is not reproduced here,
but is available on The MUG Center at www.mugcenter.com)
(Thanks to Dan for his permission to publish this report.)
