Hi Lorene,
We try really hard not to spend money on any prize we give away. The
vendors who are able to send things are way are mostly the 3 main book
vendors. We use those books at our monthly meetings for our raffle that
we hold (to try & raise a little money). This usually gives us about
$40 a meeting (20 to 30 in attendance). I've found that with all of
them, when they see that you're really doing something, they'll gladly
send what they can. If we're having a special topic, I'll request books
on that topic, and we've never had a lack.
Instead of door prizes, we've got a president who loves to toss things
to waving arms in the audience. These items are usually demo software,
t-shirts (when we can get them), mouse pads, odds & ends gathered from
MW. Everyone loves the freebies, and it has worked wonders to raise the
moral of the group.
Software is saved (hoarded) for big events - the copy of Adobe GoLive
that we got at the Adobe breakfast at MW SF just went out in our big
raffle at our expo. And other prizes that we had gotten at the YDKM
event last year just went out in the raffle at the expo.
As a side note, I really like what Louise is doing - giving yourself as
a door prize. Great ideas! I've been following this, just haven't had
time to respond earlier.
Cheers!
