For many years, our club had NO internet access at all at its meeting
location, and relied upon one particular member to borrow a video
projector from his workplace for our club meetings.
Recently, both the local PC club and our Mac club have come across a
new Church which is very interested in finding usages for its
facilities by community groups. Although the meeting location itself is
now well off the geographic centre of where our members live, the
facility we hope makes up for any added inconvenience in getting to the
meetings. The Church has installed TWO video projectors - one aimed
toward the front of the room where the audience can see it and the
second aimed at a smaller screen at the back of the room (this was
originally at the request of the Church Choir, but also means that
speakers do not have to stare at their computer screens, or look over
their shoulders, to see what the audience is seeing.
The Church was also able to upgrade its own internet service from dial
up to DSL at no added cost from their ISP, for at least the first year,
so the Church is passing this no charge feature along to our club for
the same period.
Finally, the Church offers us a place where we can store our regularly
used meeting paraphenalial so we don't have to be lugging it by car to
and from each meeting.
The cost is about twice what we used to pay just for a high school
amphitheatre for an evening, but well below the street price for all
the stated features. It's a sweat deal, now we just have to see if it
will allow us to grow our membership.
