Good question Mac,
NCMUG does charge non members a $5 entry fee, which we deduct from their
membership if they join that night or within 30 days. We intentionally make
the non member visitor price more (but not too painful). Our membership
price ranges from $25 pdf newsletter version to $30 for paper newsletter
version or $35 for PDF and paper version.
Basically if someone comes only to the meetings they potentially can pay up
to $55 a year (we do not have a meeting in September due to our Mac Computer
Expo event) and not receive the benefits of vendor discounts, CompUSA
discount or SIG meetings.
One major advantage to membership (and Mac I know you have benefited from
this many times) is our NCMUG member list. People post questions and Mac
related information to the list and we have a wide array of people who
respond. This list includes the geeky of geeks to help and the brand new
member.
So to answer your question... Yes we do charge non members a fee, but it is
reimbursed if they join. We emphasis how "membership pays" and with over 500
current members, they must think it is worth paying their annual dues.
