I am an ex-President and presently the Technical Advisor & Webmaster
for the Thames River Apple Users Group (TRAUG). We are located in the
vicinity of the Thames River in southeastern Connecticut (USA). It has
been very interesting reading the comments from some of you other
leaders. I have been involved with Apple-related users groups since
1987. I've participated in groups in Virginia Beach and on the Kitsap
Peninsula (WA) before landing here in CT. Our group is much more
informal than many of yours. We don't charge for entry to our meetings,
in fact I think our charging for membership has slipped somewhat. We
operate strictly off volunteerism. Our last several Presidents have
served until they got tired and resigned (many years a piece). Our
newsletter, which is very nicely done by a couple who've done it for us
for more than half a decade, is very nice and is delivered strictly via
email. We haven't done raffles or door prizes in a LONG time. We don't
even have a club library anymore. I guess the biggest factor one should
consider when one decides on the right price for membership is what the
group offers for the money. Some clubs have a BBS (ours died after the
internet became common). Some clubs have a file library (ours was
replaced by the internet). Most clubs have presentations, is yours of a
caliber that is worth charging admission? We don't have celebrities to
give our presentations, some of us take turns presenting based on our
expertise. So, what do you offer for the membership fee?
