Again, thanks for the suggestions.
Actually we have received a couple of copies of Office X from MacTopia
in the past and they have been raffled off to members - I think a year
or more ago now. I didn't mean to imply that Microsoft was an evil
ogre, more that I'd prefer to keep the Microsoft level on machines
within my sphere of influence to a minimum.
Suggesting to MYOB that they might consider support of Mail is also a
good idea. I did look through the online documentation for their
software and it sounds very good for what it is. However I don't think
I'm ready to scrap our entire Filemaker membership database in favor of
MYOB essentially just to gain OS X native email capability.
Over the years we have tuned the database we use to do virtually
everything we want. It has grown dramatically in ability since its
early days under Filemaker Pro 2 when we first recreated our
ClarisWorks database. It does our newsletter bulk mailing forms,
labeling and prep work, expiration notifications, membership income
reporting, form letters, emailing of a selected subset or the entire
membership (including reminder notes about upcoming expirations or
recent lapses) and so much more. At present I feel that our time would
be better invested in moving up to OS X within the same framework
rather than in trying to move to an entirely new software base.
I do truly appreciate your suggestions and am always interested in at
least hearing about alternatives. For example, the description by Chris
Kiltz of their web-based system presents capabilities that our own UG's
board has talked about some in the past as desirable. There are a
number of advantages to being able to accept member applications,
renewals, payments, etc. directly over the net. Their system, from the
initial description anyway, could offer enough of an advantage to
justify porting if we don't lose too many other capabilities that we
rely on.
