on 5 of the 5 local college campii here in Spartanburg, SCband especially
the
Univ. of S. Carolina-Spartanburg. Any ideas you have are appreciated. We
may need to contact Apple Legal.
In a nutshell, we are experiencing what many schools are going through. The
Comp. Services Depts. are trying to purge ALL the Macs & replace with Dells.
They have already accomplished this in many departments which previously
were largely Mac (Humanities Writing Lab, Library, etc.) and are now
attacking the sacred cow, the Graphic Arts Dept. (which just got new Macs
last year). The PC directors claim that their technology is
superior...pleaseb
Bottom line is the $. Intel, MicroSoft, Dell & Sun have offered schools
attractive grants to embed a straight-PC protocol. OK, Apple needs to get
on the band wagon & offer something (if it isn't too late) to get a toe-hold
back in education, but
the wording in this current Grant states that there can be no Macs for
students, staff or faculty allowed on campus! Isn't this illegal?
Our local MUG is trying to support this issue but I need to know if this is
an illegal monopoly. Obviously it is unethical. Any ideas you have are
sincerely appreciated. I believe that this is definitely a MUG issue. In
our case it affects us directly as we have met on the USCS campus for 17
years.
Thanks!
