Hey Caleb,
Congratulations! You're off to an excellent start!

I would either find out what other groups meet in these rooms and ask
them what they provided, or I would ask the people who manage the room
for the city for an example of what they'd like.

Every user group is different and has its own style. Hopefully
you've been to other user group meetings, and from them you can ask
yourself what you would want to do similarly or differently.
As you can also imagine, plenty of resources are available online to
help you start and run a user group. One of the best is mugcenter.com
where, in the left column way on down, you'll find links on:
Starting a MUG
Operating a MUG
* MUG Masters
* Finding & Working w/ Presenters
* Newsletter Content
* Apple's MUG Resources
* MUG Meeting Topics
* Free Resources
* MUG Mailing Lists
* Publicity For Your MUG
* Vendor Offers For MUGs
* Vendor Programs For MUGs
Another great resource is from the recent Apple Campus Groups
Advisory Board, and their Campus Groups Guide.pdf which you can use as
a general guide for your own group.

To get started, I would definitely consider creating sign-in sheets
w/ the basic Name, E-mail, Phone, etc., but also 'What topics are of
most interest to you?' or 'What would you like to learn more about?'
I would consider leaving them open-ended, but if you're concerned
your attendees won't know what you're talking about, you may want to
list a few examples (iPhoto, etc.), but leave space for write-ins.
For an example of our group's (very dated) sign-in sheet, check out
the following link. We have it online in case we show up at our mtng
w/o any, we can log on and print some up on the spot.

Something else important to me is that everyone walks away w/
something tangible. For your first meeting, it could be a list of
Mac-friendly businesses, or the current mugcenter.com vendor offers.
And as for no-no's, I would absolutely encourage you to never speak
ill of your fellow officers, members, other groups or companies and to
always find the bright side of any situation.
As an officer of your group, you represent your group to others who
will base their opinions of and decisions about your group on what you
say and do. Only the one bad-mouthing ends up looking bad.
Sincerely,
Doan Thiel Stafford *
